The Hotel
ai Mori d'Oriente takes it's name from the Eastern Moors
i.e. "Mori" who once upon a time traded with
Venice during the Byzantine period... Full of Eastern
promise, the Hotel ai Mori d'Oriente enjoys is one of
the most privileged hotels in Venice for sheer convenience
of location and four star service and facilities. The
restaurant offers a varied and reasonably priced menu
whilst the rooms are spacious and airy. The building
itself although built in 1500 was completely
renovated only a few years ago and as a consequence
the exterior is extremely pleasing on the eye. NB the
hotel Ai Mori d'Oriente is located in the former
Jewish Ghetto of Venice and the city's main
synagogue is only a few minutes walk, the hotel derives
it's name from the Moorish Silk Traders who used to
pass this way on their travels to and from Turkish and
other international ports. To get to the hotel one should
arrive at the water stop "Madonna Dell'Orto".
From there you need to walk across the little square
in front of the church and turn left, behind the church
until you get to Fondamenta della Sensa - Cannaregio
