The San Cassiano Hotel
in the heart of the oldest neighbourhood in the
former Republic of Venice not only enjoys one
of the finest locations in the city, but actually
makes its own contribution to the remarkable history
of this fascinating floating town. On the south
side of the northern curve of the Grand Canal,
just a few minutes west of the famous Rialto Bridge
(Ponte Rialto), the San Cassiano overlooks
the busy canal below and faces the distinctive
Ca’ d’Oro on the other side; and occupies
the only remaining Redidenza d’Epoca
in the city – the former residence of countless
Venetian nobles and the great painter, Giacomo
Favretto.
The Ca’ d’Oro, literally translated
as The Golden House, was the residence
of one of the Republic’s most notable families
– the Contarini. No less than eight Doges
of Venice were Contarini. The building takes its
name from the golden grating that once covered
it. Considered one of the most beautiful buildings
in this fantastic city, those with a room with
a view may consider themselves indeed privileged.

To get to the Hotel San Cassiano, take the Waterbus
along the Grand Canal to San Stae.
Crossing one narrow canal, follow Fondamenta
Rimpeta, left onto Calle del
Ravano and then left again onto Calle
Corner.
Alternatively, a Watertaxi will bring you directly
to the Hotel entrance, though will cost around
€ 90 from the airport, considerably less
if you take a public transport link to the main
Island of Venice first (Santa Lucia Station or
San Marco). For public transport operators, check
our Useful
Links page.
